A Visit to Santa’s Village

Since I work more often now, and my days off with Cameron are usually pretty busy, I wasn’t sure whether we would have time to visit Santa this year. Fortunately, this morning we had free time, Cameron didn’t sleep too late and was in a good mood, and we got to the mall early enough that the wait to see Santa wasn’t too long.

While we waited in line, Cameron was being so good, showing lots of interest in the snow and animals in Santa’s village, and other parents around me were impressed with how well-behaved he was. I got lots of comments on how cute he looked in his argyle sweater and what a good boy he was for staying right beside me. I had forgotten to bring the stroller so I had to rely on Cameron to stay close on his own. We wandered through Santa’s village, but when we got up to the cabin, inside which Santa was waiting to hear every child’s Christmas wish list, Cameron was much more interested in exploring the cabin than he was in sitting on Santa’s lap. The cabin had a fireplace with a big basket of pinecones in it, and I think that at that moment, a pinecone was all Cameron really wanted for Christmas. He couldn’t be convinced to go to Santa on his own, but I did get him up there long enough to snap a quick photo. Unfortunately, it was only Cameron’s belly you could see shaking like a bowl full of jelly. Santa didn’t seem too happy to hang out with Cameron either. Oh well, I’m still glad we captured the moment, and hopefully next year Cameron and Santa can become buddies!

Merry Christmas!

christmas2008-013Cameron had a wonderful first Christmas.  He is so lucky to have such a great family that loves him and gave him so many gifts.  He loves all of his new toys, books, and clothes!

On Christmas Eve, we attended family afternoon services at our church.  Cameron slept through the children’s story but woke up in time to listen to some of the Christmas carols.  He really enjoys music and loves it when I sing to him.  After church, we had family over to our house for Christmas Eve dinner.  Having people over was a little more tiring than anticipated!  Cameron was especially tired after being held and played with all evening.

On Christmas Day Cameron opened all of his gifts from his cousins and Grandma Dolly and Grandpa John who are too far away to see him this Christmas. We also enjoyed Christmas dinner at Grandma Bev’s. Cameron is still too young to really understand Christmas but is looking forward to many more future Christmases!

Happy Thanksgiving!

This year we have so much to be thankful for!  Cameron’s first Thanksgiving was spent at Grandma’s house.  He didn’t get to taste any turkey but all of his relatives were so thankful to have such a sweet baby around.

Chloe’s dream come true

This weekend we took advantage of the beautiful fall weather and had a picnic in Washington Park. Chloe thought she had died and gone to heaven with all the squirrels running around on the ground for her to stalk and chase. She will surely be dreaming of squirrel chasing for many nights to come.

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to our blog! For the last year and a half, we have been slowly redecorating and renovating our “fixer-upper” home. Built in 1972, it had not been kept up to date at all. When we purchased it, it was so dirty, dusty, and dated that when you stepped on the greenish gray shag carpet, dust plumes rose up out of the fibers. However, the house had great bones and was on a beautiful, large lot in the neighborhood we had been dreaming about, so we went for it.

We have become quite the do-it-yourselfers as we work our way through the rooms removing wallpaper, installing modern fixtures, and adding our own style and tastes. Andy has truly earned his nickname, “Handy Andy” and I have been able to experiment with new styles and colors. It’s been a lot of fun, though we are far from done.

This past February, we learned we would also be gaining another addition…Baby! Next month we will welcome our first child and lately our focus has been getting our home ready for a new baby. This blog will keep you up to date on new things happening in our lives with our home and our soon to be here baby.
